On Wednesday 11th March 2025, we welcomed students from Bank View School back to the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool Charitable Foundation for their second session as part of our Career Walking Tours Plus programme.
This session was designed to be interactive, fun, and closely linked to what the students were learning in school. Ahead of the visit, their teacher shared some of their lesson focus areas for the term, which helped us build a session that connected classroom learning with real-life examples from businesses across the Albert Dock.
Throughout the day, students took part in a mix of activities exploring both soft skills and the history of the Dock. They looked at how the Dock has changed over time and used this as a starting point to think about the types of jobs that would have existed in the past compared to the wide variety of careers available today.
One of the highlights of the session was working through different workplace scenarios, where students had to think on their feet and decide how they would respond in real-life situations. These activities sparked great discussion, teamwork and plenty of creative problem-solving.
By using familiar Dock businesses as examples throughout, the session helped bring careers to life in a way that felt engaging and relevant, while also building confidence and communication skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.
We’ve also kept the resources from the session (carefully laminated and ready to go again!), meaning this activity can now be reused and adapted for future groups—either as part of our Career Walking Tours or as a standalone workshop.
It was a brilliant example of how learning, history and careers can come together in a really engaging way—and we’re looking forward to delivering more sessions like this in the future.
