In June 2024, the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool Charitable Foundation partnered with CGI to deliver an exciting STEM Activity Day for students from Bank View School.
On Wednesday 5th June, 14 students visited Mann Island to take part in a range of engaging STEM-based activities after being selected by their teachers for their interest in STEM subjects. During the day, students heard from CGI staff about careers in technology and the opportunities available through CGI’s employment and training schemes.
The students enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities including building towers from marshmallows and pasta, taking part in a virtual escape room challenge, and experiencing virtual reality using VR headsets. The event encouraged teamwork, problem-solving and creativity while introducing students to careers within the technology sector.

Feedback from both staff and students was extremely positive, with teachers praising the venue, activities and the enthusiasm shown by the young people throughout the day.
One teacher commented: “Thanks again for organising such a fantastic day yesterday. Bank View students had a great time. I was very impressed with the venue/facilities at MANN Island. Sessions were really interesting and challenging for our students.”
They also highlighted how engaged the students were, adding: “When the group got back to school, I noticed [students] had enjoyed the sessions so much they had continued in their books, the alphabet code breaking exercise 3 letters to the left.”
Another member of staff said: “The pupils and staff were delighted with the experience our young people enjoyed. The feedback has been fantastic.”
Following the success of the event, we are now exploring future opportunities, including potential work experience placements for some of the students, and we look forward to working with both CGI and Bank View School again in the future.
